A Dubai resident who has driven a distance through the thick traffic to Sharjah, what could be his impression of Al Afadhil?
Where is this place man? Seriously, it’s been more than an hour and my car hasn’t moved an inch. How do people travel to Sharjah everyday? Now where is that godforsaken turn Amit told me about? Oh god, how do these people even cope with this kind of rash driving? Now where on earth is Kitchenrama store from where I had to take the right? Gosh, they don’t even have proper roads or what? Man, even finding a parking is a task. Now let me see how great this diner is whose name is so tough to even remember. What, is this the menu? I mean just one page? Only 9 items to choose from? Are you kidding me? Okay, let me stick to what Amit suggested, just Lucknow kebab and Shami kebab. What gaudy interiors, Moroccan lights and ancient painting and metal work, all in one place. Now why is it taking too long? And why do people come in big groups? Oh, someone please mute that baby. What, no Coke? And who on earth drinks Canada Dry? Okay, here are the kebabs. Hmm, the Lucknow kebab I shall dig into. What, this thing just broke between my fingers, how could it be so darn soft? Let me scoop it with a spoon. Hmmmm. This is subtle magic. Umm, what a brilliant flavor. Now let me check out the Shami kebab. Whoa, it has got a peppery jolt. I’m liking these kebabs. The parantha is pretty soft too. Lucknawi kebab tastes real good after that whatever cola sip. The spiciness of Shami kebab is staying on the tongue. Do they have something sweet? What, only Lassi? That’s it? So you reckon it’s that good? Cool, bring me one. Hmm, this is heaven, Lassi never tasted better, that too on a ‘kulhad’. It’s as good as a dessert. One more please. Bring me the tab. Seriously, just 32 bucks? Now that is sweet.
Al Afadhil is an Awadhi cuisine diner in Sharjah (Wahda street), which is hard to find, but a real gem. They have opened another branch in Karama, which has equally good food (though I heard that the food comes from Sharjah’s kitchen and is reheated here). Lucknow Kebab is known as Galauti Kebab in Lucknow, they must have named it Lucknow Kebab here to maybe make it sound simpler, given that not many Indians also know about Galauti Kebab. Also try the Dal Fry and Chicken Korma. Heck, try everything, anyway there are just total 9 items, that too very reasonably priced.
